about
June 11th, 2021 (Halifax, NS) - Nova Scotian-based musician Daniel James McFadyen defied
the challenges of a global pandemic to release the upbeat and heartwarming single “Seabird”
ahead of his new album “August, I’m Yours” which will be available in October 2021. Jumping
into the studio with Nashville musician and producer Ryan Roberts, the indie-pop tune is a love
song written for Canada’s East Coast. The nostalgic track takes listeners on a journey of
longing. A longing not only for those familiar sights and sounds of the Maritimes but of a desire
to return home to “Canada’s Ocean Playground.”

The single is part of McFadyen’s ‘quarantine originals’ that were written as a result of the
provincial shutdown in Nova Scotia due to the Covid-19 pandemic. With his North American tour
cancelled and no shows in sight, McFadyen packed his bags, moved across the country to work
in construction, and wrote and recorded over ten songs to help pass the time before he could
return home to Nova Scotia.
Compared to the likes of The Lumineers, McFadyen has gained an international following and
has earned acclaim as a multi-instrumentalist. Influenced by musicians such as Gregory Alan
Isakov and Rayland Baxter, McFadyen, whose music is best described as a blend of folk and
indie-pop, has carved out a musical style that is all his own. Since 2018, he has released
several EPs including his most popular “Goin’ Back”, has won The Grapevine Newsletter’s
award for Best Local Artist in the Annapolis Valley, and has sold out three back to back
performances at the well-known venue The Carleton in Halifax, Nova Scotia.
lyrics
When the tide turns to sea
And the moon lights the shore
Will you stay out til it's light with me
Swim a little deeper
I can be your seabird
Waiting on the cliffs by the sea
On the tip of my toes
With my heart to the sky
The summer always ends too soon
Swim little deeper
I can be your seabird
Waiting on the cliffs to see you
Think about the passing hands of time
(It'll be alright)
The universe or the empty northern sky
(You are the morning light)
You are the morning light
When the warm winds move on
And the leaves are all gone
Will you float into the night with me
Swim a little deeper
I can be your seabird
Waiting on the cliffs by the sea
The rocks and the stones
Keep us safe in our home
And will sleep until the afternoon
Swim a little deeper
I can be your seabird
Waiting on the cliffs to see you
Think about the passing hands of time
(It'll be alright)
The universe or the empty northern sky
(You are the morning light)
You are the morning light
And oh hey hey
I am a tidal wave
X
Year after year
I look out for you dear
You're a speck out on the sunset sky
Swim a little deeper
I can be your seabird
Wait upon the cliffs til I die
